is a high-performance electronic keyboard that features the most

advanced Y'amaha technology for superior sound and features. To

ensure that you fully understand the many fine features provided,

we urge you to follow the steps outlined in this manual while actual

ly trying out the instrument’s features.

Taking Care of Your PortaTone

Your PortaTone will give you years of playing pleasure if you follow the simple rules given below:

1. Avoid placing the PortaTone in areas that are subject to excessive humidity or heat. Do not leave

the instrument near heaters or in a car exposed to direct sunlight, for example.

2. Avoid locations in which the instrument is likely to be exposed to excessive dust or moisture,

3. Connections between the PortaTone and any other device must be made with both pieces of equip

ment turned OFF.

4. Do not subject the instrument to strong physical shocks, and avoid placing heavy objects on it.

5. Use a soft cloth, dry or slightly damp, for cleaning. Never use chemicals such as benzine or thinner,

6. Since the PortaTone contains digital circuitry, it may cause interference if placed to close to radio

or television receivers. If this occurs, move the instrument further away from the affected equipment.

Power Supply

Your PSR-18 wilt run either from batteries (sold separately) or an optional power adaptor. Follow the

instructions below according to the power source you intend to use.

• Using Batteries

Six 1,5V D size (SUM-1 or R-20) or equivalent alkaline batteries (sold separately) must first be installed

in the battery compartment.

1. Open the battery compartment cover located on the instrument’s bottom panel.

2. Insert the six batteries, being careful to follow the polarity markings on the cabinet.

3. Replace the compartment cover, making sure that it locks firmly in place.

Caution:

1. When the batteries run down, replace them with a complete set of six new batteries. NEVER mix

old and new batteries,

2. To prevent possible damage due to battery leakage, remove the batteries from the instrument if it

is not to be used for an extended period of time.

• Using An Optional Power Adaptor

Plug the DC output cable from an optional PA-3, PA-4 or PA-40 Power Adaptor into the DC(9-12V)IN

jack on the rear panel, then plug the adaptor into a convenient wall AC power socket.

Use ONLY a Yamaha PA-3, PA-4 or PA-40 Power Adaptor to power your instrument from the AC

mains. Attempting to use other AC adaptors could result in serious damage to your PSR-18.

Behandlung Ihres PortaTone

Bitte befolgen Sie die untenstehenden Vofsichtsrnaßregein, damit Sie viele Jahre ungetrübten Spaß

an ihrem Keyboard haben.

1. Das PortaTone nicht an Orten aufstellen, an denen übermäßige Hitze oder Feuchtigkeit auftritt.

Das Instrument nicht in die Nähe von Wärmequellen plazieren oder längere Zeit in einem ver

schlossenen, im prallen Sonnenlicht stehendem Fahrzeug belassen.

2. Das Gerät vor Staub und Nässe schützen,

3. Vor dem Anschluß von Zusatzgeräten diese Geräte und das PortaTone ausschalten.

4. Das Gerät vor Stößen schützen und keine schweren Gegenstände auf das Gerät steilen.

5. Zum Reinigen das Instrument mit einem trockenen oder leicht angefeuchteten Tuch abwischen.

Niemals Lösungsmittel wie Benzin oder Verdünner zur Reinigung verwenden.

6. Da das PortaTone Digitalschaltungen enthält, kann es Radio- und Fernsehempfang stören. In

diesem Fall das PortaTone weiter entfernt von den betroffenen Geräten aufstellen.

Stromversorgung

Ihr PSR-18 kann mit Batterien oder aber über einen getrennt erhältlichen Netzadapter betrieben wer

den, Befolgen Sie die nachfolgenden Anweisungen für die jeweilig verwendete Stromquelle.

• Stromversorgung über Batterien

Legen Sie zunächst sechs 1,5 V Monozellen (R-20, SUM-1 bzw. Größe D) oder entsprechende Al

kalibatterien (getrennt erhältlich) in das Batteriefach des PSR-18 ein.

Öffnen Sie den Batteriefachdeckel auf der Unterseite des PSR-18.

Legen Sie die sechs Batterien entsprechend den Markierungen am Gehäuse ein.

Bringen Sie den Batteriefachdecket wieder an und achten Sie darauf, daß er einrastet.

Achtung:

1. Wenn die Batterien schwach werden, stets alle sechs Batterien zugleich als Satz austauschen.

NIEMALS alte und neue Batterien zusammen verwenden.

2. Bei längerem Nichtgebrauch die Batterien aus dem Instrument nehmen, um mögliche Schäden

durch auslaufende Batterien zu verhindern.

• Stromversorgung über Netzadapter (Sonderzubehör)

Schließen Sie dazu das Gieichspannungskabel des Netzadapters (PA-3, PA-4 oder PA-40 ) an die

Buchse DC(9-12V)IN auf der Rückseite des PSR-18 an, bevor Sie den Adapter an eine Steckdose

anschlteßen.

NUR einen der Yamaha Netzadapter PA-3, PA-4 oder PA-40 (Sonderzubehör) für den Netzstrombe-

trieb verwenden. Die Benutzung anderer Adapter kann zu Beschädigungen am PSR-18 führen.
